A SMALL TOOL. A CLEAR JOB.

Convert PNG to SVG,
one contour at a time.

Automatic tracing works best for logos, icons, line art and simple graphics. It is not suitable for photographs. Photos contain gradients and texture that turn into many approximate shapes, not a faithful editable photo.

This PNG to SVG converter traces the pixels into colored paths. It does not place your PNG inside an SVG wrapper.

How to change PNG to SVG

Drop or choose one PNG, or paste a copied PNG image. Choose precision and the maximum number of colors. Convert, inspect the vector preview, and download. The original filename is kept with an .svg extension; clipboard images use pasted-image.svg.

What the settings do

Smooth simplifies small contours. Detailed keeps finer contours and may produce larger files. Color count controls palette quantization, not an exact guaranteed number of visible colors. Transparency is traced as part of that palette; soft edges can change.

Limits you should know

One PNG up to 10 MB and 16 million decoded pixels. Tracing uses a working image up to 1,024 pixels on its longest side; output keeps the original width and height with scalable paths. Details smaller than the working image can be lost. No batch processing, accounts or saved history.

A few useful answers.

Is this a real PNG to SVG conversion?

Yes. ImageTracer.js quantizes the image into color layers, finds contours and fits line and quadratic curve segments. The downloaded SVG contains paths, not an embedded image or base64 PNG.

Can I convert PNG to SVG without losing detail?

Tracing is an approximation. Use a sharp, simple source and try Detailed precision. Text, fine texture and gradients may change. If you have the original vector artwork, use that instead.

Can I paste an image from my clipboard?

Focus the paste area and paste an actual PNG image. Copied URLs, HTML and plain text are not image files. On mobile or browsers without image clipboard support, choose a PNG file instead.

Where are my images processed?

Only in your browser. A local worker runs ImageTracer.js; your PNG and SVG are not uploaded. The tracing library is served from this same site.
